Flying Style (what i wear to the airport)

Being in an airport excites me. Whether I’m on my way somewhere new or going back home, airports give me that giddy feeling. It’s summer and that means that a lot of us are traveling. Airport style has become so prominent these days; I decided to tackle it with my own personal twist. Also, thanks to the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, I will be using sharing some great picks, I think go great when we are catching our next flight.

Airports tend to be cold. I am the kind of person who get’s cold real quick, so you know I’m going to have a sweater on me.

This Cozychic Lite Coastal Hooded Cardigan is to die for. It’s the perfect length to get all cozied up on an airplane. Plus, it’s hooded and so so soft! The color is lovely as well. If you’re looking for a sweater-type deal, then this Ribbed Wool & Cashmere Sweater by VINCE is perfect! It is extremely soft and is bound to keep you warm. Looks like I’m staying in the same brown color scheme. What a great color!

Just like sweaters, I tend to reach for tops that are flowy and soft when I’m picking out what to wear for a flight. Something like this Adidas tank top would be perfect to layer under that cardigan, plus, if you get too warm, the tank will help you breathe better and keep you cool! How cute is think tank y’all?!

If I’m on a long flight my body will automatically turn to leggings. The stretchy comfy fit, almost makes leggings a necessity on long-haul flights. For those shorter flights, jeans are my best friend. Jeans can be comfy and look nice! They can automatically change an outfit:

I am loving the hem on these Rag & Bone High Waist Skinny Ankle Jeans! The blue color is just right – not too dark, not too light.  They hit just on the ankle which is what I’m loving for jeans right now. Black jeans are another way to make an outfit. These Le High Skinny Step Hem Jeans by Frame definitely play up the ordinary black pant. I mean check out that hem. I think we’re seeing another pattern here!

In today’s world, you can find sneakers that are both comfy and stylish. Take these Nike Juvenate SE Sneakers, for example. Their black and white tint makes them the ideal athleisure shoe. They are gorgeous! Another easy slip-on alternative are booties. These Paivley Booties go great with jeans and their black color will guarantee a match with anything. Perfect for slipping on and off when going through security.

I guarantee you I am that girl at the airport who’s carrying either a giant backpack or a giant tote. With all the stuff I take with me, I love having a huge bag to carry everything with. When I saw this Madewell Paint Stripe Transport Leather Tote, I was sold! The sale price was a huge perk as well. The classic Madewell tote has been redone with a daring stripe right on the bag. You’ll definitely be able to get your black and brown wear out of this one!100866565

Getting this post together makes me realize how much traveling excites me. While I do not have anything planned in the near future –sigh– I am always on the prowl for flights, trains, cars, and anything in-between. I hope this was able to help in anyway!

Alright friends, let me know if y’all are off anywhere. I’d love to hear about it!

so you want to be a public servant?

I recently read an article on 5 traits public servants tend to have. Now as I consider myself a public servant, of course I did nothing but compare myself to these traits.

Willingness to help each other, passionate about mission/want to make an impact, cautious, struggling navigating the bureaucracy, and want to learn about others were what the article considered to be great traits of a dedicated public servant. I couldn’t help but get excited when I saw myself in these traits.

Of course each individual is different. We have to think about what in public service calls to us. Those of us who are  interested in nonprofits or international NGOs may have different traits than someone who is more interested in local government or federal positions. Of course I do think every public servant can have a little bit of everything.

I also belive there are many other traits that public servants possess. So what can you do to fully engulf yourself in public service? Here are a couple of suggestions:

  • Volunteer: Think about an issue, topic, or organization you are passionate about. I guarantee there is something out there you can dedicate your time to and you’ll love it in the process!
  • Intern: If you are still in the process of looking for internships, there are many internship positions out there that can benefit you professionally. Check out the USA Jobs website if you are interested in internship positions.
  • Further your education: There are many undergraduate and graduate programs out there which are geared towards public service. I briefly talk about my experience in a public service-centered graduate program. (Let me know if you want me to do a full review on my experiences and I will!)
  • Be a Good Citizen!: If volunteering, interning, or getting another degree isn’t for you, then all you have to do is be another kind member of society. Do everything you can to make everything great for yourself, your neighbor, and your country.

Those are some of the tips I have! Let me know in the comments below if you are looking to be in a career of public service and if you have any other tips!
